Doug Klein
Doug brings over 23 years of high tech experience to LightPole. As the founding CEO then CTO of Vernier Networks, Doug brought cutting edge wireless management and security capabilities to the enterprise WLAN and network access control (NAC) markets. As the President and COO of NuvoMedia, Doug oversaw product development that led to a product, the Rocket eBook, shipping within 10 months of the company’s funding. Doug led the company through three rounds of funding, then negotiated the company’s sale to Gemstar/TVGuide for $125 million. Earlier, Doug co-founded NCD and served in a variety of roles, including VP, Technical Support, CTO, and President & General Manager. Doug created NCD’s most successful software product line, WinCenter, an OEM derivative of Citrix WinFrame technology that earned $20M in sales in its 1st year. Doug also negotiated an OEM/joint development relationship with IBM to create the original IBM NC (Network Computer). Doug’s previous experience also includes two years as VP, Engineering and Product Development for Packet Design, and Director, Technical Services, for Ridge Computers. Doug recently co-founded LightPole, Inc., a company that creates carrier-grade back-end server infrastructure and applications to enable publishers to publish geo-specific content to mobile devices.
Bill Carrico
William N. Carrico graduated from Santa Clara University in 1972 with a BSEE. After working at Fairchild Semiconductor and Zilog, Inc., Bill went on to co-found seven networking companies in the Bay Area over the next 20 years, including Bridge Communications in 1981. Bridge was a vendor of internetwork routers and bridges that went public in 1985 and merged with 3Com Corporation in 1987, during which time Carrico served as President of 3Com. A second startup, Network Computing Devices, a maker of X terminals and PC-UNIX integration software, was founded in 1988 and went public in 1992. Carrico served as President and CEO of NCD until 1993 when he became Chairman. Carrico also served as Chairman of Precept Software from the company's 1995 founding as a maker of streaming video software. After Cisco Systems acquired Precept in 1998, in 1999 he became Cisco's Senior Vice President of the Small and Medium Business Unit through April 2000. Carrico then co-founded Packet Design LLC in 2000 as a network startup incubator.. Packet Design LLC has spun-off three separate companies.
John Shoch
John F. Shoch, Ph.D., is a General Partner at Alloy Ventures in Palo Alto, and has been doing venture investing since 1985. John received a BA in Political Science, an MS, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science, all from Stanford. He joined Xerox at its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where he helped develop the Ethernet, a local area network system. He later became the assistant to the CEO of Xerox , and then President of the Office Systems Division, developing networked office systems derived from Xerox PARC research. He was a director of and founding investor in Conductus and Remedy. He is also a director of several private companies, including Kasenna, Knowledge Networks, Xangati, Ravenflow, and MontaVista Software.
